Introducing The Mercer Chair
At the intersection of Mercer and Spring in Manhattan, the street is inlaid with dark metal and glass - lending an industrial edge to an otherwise posh neighborhood. We imagined the Mercer chair as just such an intersection: between graphic lines and timeless appeal, industrial modernity and elegant sophistication.
The Mercer’s style and sophistication belies its heritage roots. As with all of our production, we partnered with the finest North Carolina craftsmen to bring this shape to life. Each frame is hand-welded by a third generation blacksmith in North Carolina whose parents taught him the craft - and it shows. They use square metal tubing that is made of 95% recycled materials and a powder coat for a matte black, ultra-sleek finish. Each angle is expertly aligned to create a seat that is not only gorgeous, but also kick-back comfortable. The upholstered seat features a generous depth and elegant recline for a super relaxed sit that will withstand everyday use without losing the structure and support that gives this piece its polished, architectural look.
If you were looking for perfect pairing: The Mercer’s graphic angles act as the ideal foil to The Warren’s elegantly imposing silhouette. Each brings a unique perspective on modern design - offering a simple and pared down yet eminently inviting aesthetic.
We imagined The Mercer in Pebble Performance Basketweave for a dimensional, textured approach to upholstered seating. In this combination, The Mercer becomes the ideal marriage of high design paired with materials that will stand up to your life - even if that includes pets, kids, or entertaining. Even its steel frame’s powder coat is scratch-proof. Just like its namesake and inspiration, The Mercer is ready to stand the test of time and maintain its striking look for years to come.
The Mercer is the embodiment of the Maiden Home promise: modern yet timeless design paired with heritage craftsmanship at a value unseen elsewhere in the market. We can’t wait to build you yours.
