As we head into the autumn season, curves and comfort are increasingly in demand. Change is in the air and we’re relying on our homes now more than ever to create a sanctuary of luxurious comfort. It's a time where we are assessing our spaces for moments to add livable indulgences—adding the perfect opportunity to use texture instead of color to create interest and play with accent pieces that add feelings of cozy comfort within a space.
Our newest luxury fabric additions offer of-the-moment opportunities to play with pieces that are rich in texture and high in visual interest. Meet our latest material arrivals: Performance Bouclé, Mohair, and pure New Zealand Shearling.
Performance Bouclé
Bouclé is as rich in texture as it is in history. Bouclé first made its cultural appearance as the pièce de résistance of a commission by Florence Knoll in the 1940’s. Her directive was to create the ultimate curl-up chair that felt as though she was lounging in a “basket full of pillows.” Eero Saarinen, a Finnish-American architect and industrial designer, took her request to the next level with not only his creation of the Model No.70, aka, the “Womb Chair”, but by pairing it with a richly textural bouclé. From that point, the nubby fabric not only became a cultural mainstay throughout furniture of the mid-century, but also became part of fashion history when Chanel reimagined the classic women’s jacket in a straight and fluid shape with tweed bouclé as the star.

When designing with bouclé, its rich texture is best paired with free-flowing, organic silhouettes—keeping its historical context with a modern sensibility. The combination exemplifies its organic modernism origin story that sets the tone in your space for welcoming luxury that you want to linger in for hours. Our new Performance Bouclé is immensely soft to the touch and featured in our Polar hue—a versatile neutral with just the right amount of warmth. Its texture and tactility create the depth and interest needed within the neutral color palettes of the moment.
Bouclé is as much at home upholstered on The Bond Chair, around its curl-up proportions and curvaceous silhouette, as it is on The Thompson Canopy Bed, perfectly tailored with a welt-finish next to the organic curves of the natural ash wood frame. And the modernity of today means that luxury like this can live at home with its Performance-backed durability—making it resistant to liquid spills and easy to spot clean. Add Bouclé to your complimentary swatch kit and feel the rich texture within your home.

Mohair
Experience our newest, most durable luxury fabric: Mohair, shorn from Angora goats by JB Martin, manufacturing the world’s finest velvets as a family-owned textile mill since 1832. This soft, lustrous fabric is one of the oldest velvets in use. Its luxury is felt in the soft fibers and distinctive luster created by the way light is reflected off of its surface. With as much beauty as it holds, it also has incredible resiliency and is known for its crush resistance and ease of care.
