Maiden Home Cedar Hedge House Southampton Gabriela Gargano

In our latest home tour, we’re taking you into the exclusive enclave of Southampton, NY for a peek inside a luxury rental featuring three different shapes from the Maiden Home collection. Known for her eclectic, yet versatile style, designer Gabriela Gargano of Grisoro Designs (and now Grisoro Properties) played with scale, shape and texture to bring this laid-back, yet ultra-luxe living room to life. Explore the property - including some great before & after photos! - and discover Gabriela’s inspiration, process, and sources for the heart of this home.

Tell us a little bit about how the space will be used.

I've been personally investing in residential real estate since 2005 and have loved combining my finance/investing background with my passion for interior design. The goal for this home was to create a beautiful luxury rental property right in the village of Southampton that blends privacy with proximity to downtown. I redesigned the home, along with architect Anthony Hobson, to maximize the utility of the addition. One of the key focuses was creating a much larger entertaining space, inside and out, as I felt this is really what Hamptons living is about. For example, the kitchen and dining can comfortably seat 16 people. The living room has wonderfully comfortable sofas and chairs (by Maiden Home of course!) and we added a fireplace so that the home would we feel cozy and warm in the winter months.

What are some of your favorite things about this project as a whole?

Working on a free standing home (as compared to most of the work we do in apartments in the city) was a tremendous learning experience for us. It was a fun challenge to integrate the original 1950's bones with a more contemporary feel, adding hundreds of square feet in the process. Some of my favorite elements are the master suite which has soaring  vaulted ceilings, plus a private lounge area and bathroom with a soaking tub. You just never want to leave that room!

Where did you draw inspiration from on this specific project? Did you have any visual touch points that you drew upon throughout the process?

Art was a big inspiration for the home, and more specifically creating an environment to properly display it. In addition, I wanted the home to be less "beachy" and have more of a clean, eclectic aesthetic where it would feel appropriate year round. My inspiration was a blend of beautifully restored Hamptons homes (Steven Gambrel is of course iconic in this area) to contemporary, edited spaces that elegantly blend historic and modern (Joseph Dirand does it most effortlessly).

Why did you choose Maiden Home for this project?

Aesthetically, I found Maiden Home to be particularly on point for this project as the various styles really capture a sense of relaxed elegance. More specifically, I love that The Carmine had a very tailored elegant feel, The Dune a modern version of a slipcovered sofa and The Hayes chairs, which added that organic design feel with the slung hide. Performance was also a key element as it will be rented out - we wanted fabrics that were durable and easy to clean so we could maintain the beauty of the space over time. I love white sofas, but of course they can be tough to keep clean. The fact that The Dune was available in Oyster Performance Linen that is also washable is a dream!

How did you mix and match the Maiden Home pieces? Why was this combination particularly successful?

I love eclectic spaces, that are cohesive yet have unique elements. The Carmine, Dune and Hayes each have a very different personality but the color palette allows them to work so well together in one space. More specifically we did The Dune in White Linen opposite The Hayes chairs in Pale Cowhide to balance both sides of the room and placed The Carmine in Mist in between as the pop of color. Even the washed oak feet on The Carmine tie into the frame of the Hayes chairs - the ability to customize each piece was key to keeping a unified look.

How did you accent the Maiden Home furniture in the space?

The most important table in a living room is the coffee table of course. I  sourced these nesting tables from Ballard Designs in a blue grey color that accented the mist fabric so well, and are tremendously functional for entertaining.

Also I loved the organic feel of this side table/stool, which ties into the Hayes chairs beautifully. For the accents in the room, I searched Chairish for vintage pieces to add that antique element, which always seems to make a space feel special and unique.
