We’ve long been fans of Megan and John Runion’s rustic, yet modern style - typified by Megan’s blog For All Things Lovely. So when Megan reached out to us about partnering on furnishing her home, we jumped at the opportunity to freshen up their living room and bedroom spaces with some of our (and our customers’) favorite styles.
Her living room design features a pair of two gorgeous Dune sofas (in the face-off configuration) in Khaki Performance Washed Linen alongside two of The Hayes chairs with a smoky walnut frames and white hair-on-hide slings - a stunning combination that showcases the natural materiality of these styles. For her bedroom, she chose the gorgeous Essex bed with its tightly tailored lines, and chic, modern styling.
We chatted with Megan about her design - discovering why she chose Maiden Home for her home and how she styled her space to be the perfect balance of cozy comfort and polished glamour.
Tell us a little about how you found Maiden Home.
About 3 months ago, John and I decided it was time to give our living room and bedroom a little re-fresh. Our living room is the first thing you see when you walk in the front door, so a clean, minimal vibe to set the tone for the rest of the house is exactly what we were after. Finding and purchasing furniture for your home is such an intimate thing. It's what you walk by each morning when you wake up, gather around when hosting friends and family, relax on at the end of a long day, and live with for years to come. Especially at this stage of life, we're investing in pieces we know we'll love forever and truly want designer quality at an exceptional value.
After a few months of searching for the perfect thing, I finally found Maiden Home. I had never heard of the brand before, but the moment I was taken to the home page, it just spoke to my soul. The more I learned about the brand, your beliefs and process, the more in love I became.
You’ve maximized your living space so well, how did you land on this configuration?
The two sofas facing each other has always been our favorite set up! We entertain all the time - from a Thursday night dinner with friends to hosting big life events with our family + friends, our home is always the gathering place and we love that. With that being said, we always want our guests to feel comfortable. In our opinion, being able to kick your shoes off, curl up with a cozy blanket, and a glass of wine is the best way to enjoy a night in. Having two couches allows for plenty of cozy seating and endless conversation.
The Dune is such a showstopper in this space, how have you been liking it so far?
I was immediately drawn to The Dune sofa because I love the slipcovered look and scatter-back pillows. It's such a perfect fit for our neutral, french farmhouse style and I literally couldn't get it off my mind for days. We wanted a cozy, light and bright, yet lived-in overall look. Once we decided on the Khaki color, we knew the Dune sofas were going to brighten up our space and give us the comfort level we were looking for. My favorite thing so far about the sofa is the long, one pillow cushion. That one specific detail changes the game in my opinion - it's so comfortable and makes you just want to curl up at first glance.
Next up, you decided to tackle your bedroom - can you tell us a little about why you chose The Essex for that space?
Our bedroom gets a ton of morning light, which we love, so our goal has always been to keep this space light, airy, neutral, and minimal. The moment we laid our eyes on this bed we knew it would completely change our space. We love the straight lines, giving us that minimal, farmhouse feel we crave, but decided to go with the Creme Performance Linen Fabric to give us that soft, Parisian touch. The Essex is a bit more modern too, with it's straight legs, and we went with the Washed Oak for a natural + causal finish to complete our custom bed.
Tell us a little about ordering with Maiden Home, how was the experience?
After deciding on the pieces we couldn't live without, I ordered complementary swatches from the website. Within a couple of days, I had all 4 swatches of the fabric colors the Dune Sofa is available in, as well as other options for the bed. We were pretty sure khaki was the way to go for our living space, but having the swatches at our fingertips gave us the assurance we needed to move forward. Before we even placed our order, I had an email in my inbox thanking me for my interest and asking how the brand could be of service. Any questions we had or decisions we were on the fence about - answered by a real person, without even having to ask for it. I am all about customer service and that non-pushy, simply helpful email felt like such a game changer.
From the collections and fabrics to the customer service and the process, Maiden Home was flawless to work with. We're so in love with our new spaces!
