Home Tour | Step Inside the Lilypad Cottage's Gorgeous Living Room Redesign
Here at Maiden Home, we've seen a lot of living rooms, dens, and family rooms - but when we stumbled upon Kelly Rinzema of Lilypad Cottage's living room, we knew that we'd found something special. She and her husband custom designed their home to maximize the incredible views and provide a warm, inviting space for friends and family.
From its high ceiling, criss-crossed with rafters to massive windows overlooking the lake - this space begged for the perfect furniture to compliment the clean, yet traditional lines of the home. So we teamed up with Kelly to custom design a gorgeous living room that balanced modern design with casual elegance. Read on for details from her design process to the reason why The Sullivan was the right choice for her home.
Tell us a little about this living room refresh.
When we first were shopping for furniture for this space, my husband’s only must have for the new home was a huge comfy couch. I was on board with the idea as long as it could be a pretty, huge comfy couch. Easier said than done as we found out. After a zillion hours shopping furniture stores, we settled on a comfy one that was the right color, but not my ideal fabric and the lines weren’t totally what I had in mind. The Mr. persuaded me (with the help of a few margaritas) that we should buy it for now with the intention that it would be great in the basement someday when we found what I really wanted.
When I discovered Maiden Home, I was instantly drawn in with the clean lines, yet the timeless feel of your furniture, which is a style I’m always striving for in our home. Your fabric selections were beautiful and I fell in love with the natural texture of your Linen fabric.
This is the main living space in your home, where you work, entertain, and relax as a family. Tell us about why you chose The Sullivan for this space.
My husband was onboard with new furniture, but I was going to have to pry the idea of his beloved sectional out of his cold dead hands. And I get it, the previous furniture arrangement worked really well for our whole family and when we hosted friends and family.
We chose the Sullivan Sectional in Oyster Performance Linen because it provided the most amount of seating for our space. Living on the lake we do a lot of entertaining in the summer, so having enough seating for all of our friends and family is key. The deep seat and down filled cushions make it a comfortable spot to curl up with a book or watch the game on tv and the bench cushion gives it the clean modern feel we love. This sofa feels so special because of the extra details like the wood feet and curved arm, plus we finally have the white linen sofa I've always wanted but in a kid and pet-friendly fabric! I'm so glad I don't need to constantly worry about every spill.
Really every detail is beautiful, and you can see (and feel) the difference in the quality. Ok, I will stop gushing.
Tell us about the process of ordering from Maiden Home.
Ordering furniture online without being able to sit on it and feel if it's comfortable was our biggest concern. When we researched and found out about the quality materials that Maiden Home uses it really put us at ease. Plus all of the online reviews were so positive!
I loved being able to to compare fabric swatches right in our home. We were able to view our fabric swatches in different lights and times of day and also were able to compare them with our existing rug and furniture. It gave us a lot of confidence about the buying process when we were able to see and feel the texture of the fabric.
I loved getting the build updates and it really gave us a sense of the craftsmanship and quality that went into each of our pieces. Having the furniture delivered right to our door and put in place by the helpful delivery men was so easy. They worked with my schedule and didn't leave until I was completely satisfied with the placement of the furniture - something my husband really appreciated!
The space is capped off beautifully by a pair of Leroy chairs, can you tell us a little about why you chose this style?
I chose the Leroy Chair because I was looking for something less traditional and stuffy and more modern and laid back. I want our house to have a casual and comfortable feel but still maintain the clean lines I love so much. The Leroy fit the bill perfectly. It has a beautiful shape and the wood details add such warmth and character to the chair. These chairs are floating in the middle of our living space and they are the first thing you see when you walk in the front door. I love that they are unique and visually interesting from every angle they are viewed at. They really add so much to our space!
The wide variety of fabric options provided a great opportunity to add a pop of color and personality to our space. To contrast the sofa, I chose the Performance Tweed in the color Denim. It’s a Sunbrella fabric, which is fade resistant, so it’s great in this room with all the light we get!
The room is so cohesive and thoughtfully designed, are there other pieces in the space that you can’t get enough of?
One thing I do love is our Dash and Albert rug. I had this rug picked out before we even broke ground on the house. I wanted something with a classic feel and pattern on the floor, but the jute makes it really practical and it hides sand and dirt really well.
